This lightweight, airy cowl was originally designed as part of the Lady Dye Yarns / Fab 8 Craft Club Collaboration for Women’s History Month 2019.

It takes just one hank of fingering weight yarn and contrasts giant lace eyelets with slanted lacy stripes. Using Lady Dye Yarns’ bestselling colourway Wingaersheek guarantees lots of denim blue and chestnut ‘pops’ on an ecru background. Plus, it’s knitted on a slightly larger needle so the fabric really opens after steaming, becoming more supple and revealing the lace in all it’s glory.

For those of you who prefer, this design would also work well in a solid colour whether subtle or bright. Instructions are given in both written and chart form.

Materials
You’ll need 400 m (437 yds) of your favourite fingering weight yarn. It’s shown here in Lady Dye Yarns Superwash Merino Fingering 400 m/ 100g ( 437 yds / 3½ oz), shade Wingaersheek

Measurements
The finished cowl is one size and measures 80 cm wide x 25.5 cm long (31½ in wide x 10 in long) although it can be made longer by simply working extra repeats of the pattern.

Needles
80 cm long 4.00 mm (US 6) circular needle

Also needed
Darning needle for sewing in ends

Gauge
As two lace stitches are used for this design, tension is given for each pattern. Please take the time to knit a gauge swatch in each pattern and adjust your needles where necessary to achieve stated gauge.

Pattern A - 23 sts and 38½ rows to 10 cm (4 in) measured over large eyelet pattern using 4.00 mm (US 6) needles
Pattern B - 24 sts and 38½ rows to 10 cm (4 in) measured over diagonal lace pattern using 4.00 mm (US 6) needles

Addendum
Please note that Rows 1 and 17 are essentially the same except that markers are place on Row 1 and slipped on Row 17
