Simple elegance in a long, narrow, bias shawl with a leaf lace border. Optional inserts of matching leaf lace frame sections of stockinette, providing a nice mix of easy knitting and interesting construction of the lace inserts.

This shawl is worked end-to-end in a seamless manner and includes two size options.

Joined border technique is used for the optional leaf inserts and the final finishing border. Instructions are included in the pattern as well as a link to an excellent tutorial.

Recommend any fingering or heavy lace yarn with good stitch definition. Sample shown was worked in Malabrigo Sock in color “Pearl”. It is also beautiful in Bumblebirch Heartwood in color “Dandelion”. The design would also lend itself to a gradient yarn.

This shawl design is named “Eve” because she did, after all, create the first leaf design garment way back at the beginning of time in the Garden of Eden.

PATTERN NOTES

Finished Measurements: 17 inches deep at point and 56 inches wide. Larger shawl is 22 inches deep and 80 inches wide. Instructions included for making it even larger.

Notes:
• The main body of this shawl is worked in stockinette stitch with a garter stitch edge.

• Pattern includes optional lace inserts in main body of shawl. This is essentially using the method for Joined Borders and then picking up sts for the next shawl section after the joined border (i.e., Insert) is finished.

• Shawl is worked seamlessly end to end.

• When desired length is reached, the leaf corner is worked and the final border is worked using Joined Border technique.

• Instructions are included for working additional repeats to make the shawl larger. Any increase in length will require additional yarn.

• Omit the optional lace inserts to simplify the project for more rapid completion or for a newer knitter.

Skills Required:
It is helpful to understand German Short Rows, picking up stitches, Joined Border technique. While instructions are not included in detail for all of these techniques, I do include links to instructional tutorials and there are tons of youtube videos to help you. This is a good project to practice a few new skills and it can also be simplified by leaving out the leaf inserts.

Yarn Required:
Approximately 550 yards/502m. Yarn usage will vary depending on gauge and specific yarn used. Sample used 515 yds/470m. Optional larger size requires approx. 700 yards/640m.
