Even Wine Tote
(Intermediate level difficulty)
My friend Even (pronounced “Evan”) recently asked if I could make him a wine bottle holder and after browsing patterns for hours and hours and not finding one that resonated with me, I picked up some yarn, started freestyle designing, and with that, the Even Wine Tote was born!
Embracing colour maximalism and inspired by vintage Jacquard designs, the Even Wine Tote works up quickly, is visually stunning, and this pattern includes twelve variations for numerous design options to keep you engaged as you crochet.
This is the first (complex) pattern I’ve written, so if there are any questions about it, please reach out!
The Even Wine Tote is worked in continuous rounds for the base and then joined rounds working up the sides. At the end of the base section, the diameter should be between 3.2” and 3.5” — the diameter of the average bottle of wine.
I recommend using mercerized cotton as it’s non-stretchy, very durable, and holds its colour exceptionally well. If using a different brand of mercerized cotton (or lighter-weight), ensure your base is at least 3.2” or else it will be too tight to fit a bottle!
For my sample, I used Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton, colours Lilac and Ecru. In my attempt at colour maximalism, I wanted to use the bold colour as my main, and the neutral as my contrast — I would encourage you to go bold as well!
