Ever True
When I was invited to design a colorful sock pattern to benefit Down Syndrome International, I knew bright stranded colorwork was the way to go. The triangular motif is a reference to the third copy of the 21st chromosome. Choose a five-color miniskein set or wrangle some leftovers!
These socks are knit from the cuff down and have a traditional heel flap and gusset. You’ll only work with two colors at a time. Remember: colorwork socks do not stretch well, so choose a size that has 0 ease, which means it matches your foot/leg circumference.
Skills:
Knitting in the round, stranded colorwork management (2 active colors per round)
Sizes (sock circumference; choose a size close to 0 ease, which means it matches your foot/leg circumference):
- S: 7.4”/18.8 cm
- M: 8.25”/20.3 cm
- L: 9.2”/23.4 cm
Sample shown in Size M.
Yarn (includes 15% buffer):
- S: 65 yards/59 m each of 4 colors, 85 yards/78 m of a 5th color
- M: 75 yards/68 m each of 4 colors, 100 yards/91 m of a 5th color
- L: 85 yards/78 m each of 4 colors, 120 yards/110 m of a 5th color
Sample shown in Sweet Georgia Party of Five Miniskein Yarn Set in “Aurora” combination: Tough Love Sock (80% superwash merino, 20% nylon), 105 yds/96 m per 1 oz/ 28 g miniskein, colorways Mint Julep, Deep Cove, Sapphire, Lupine, and Wisteria
Blocked Gauge:
* 35 stitches and 38 rounds = 4”/10 cm in colorwork pattern in the round using larger needles
Tools:
- 1 stitch marker
- Tapestry needle
Needles:
US 1 (2.25-mm) and US 2 (2.5-mm) needles for knitting socks, or sizes needed to obtain gauge.
