This side-buttoned poncho in Lichen and Lace Worsted Weight is in loving memory of the 215 First Nations children lost to us in Kamloops, BC, Canada

On May 27th, 2021, Canadians faced yet again, the painful reminder of a shameful chapter in Canada’s history. The discovery of 215 remains of Indigenous Children in unmarked graves at a Residential School in Kamloops, BC, Canada with many more to follow. The long awaited road to Respectful Reconciliation is now on our minds. I felt compelled to honour and respect our First Nations and Indigenous peoples. To this end I have designed a trio of handknits. A Child’s buttoned Poncho, a shawl, and a buttoned cowl.
