This pattern is The Fiber Seed Swifties Pattern 4!

The Fiber Seed puts out some amazing variegated colors and one of the truly unique things that they do is dye similar colorways using different techniques to produce wildly different results. This shawl pattern was designed to do something similar in that each of the triangular sections of the shawl is worked in almost the same way but because of the positioning of the panels they look very different. The columns of lace go every which way! ;)

The pattern itself is entirely written out and includes instructions for both a 2 panel version that produces a triangular shawl and a 3 panel version that produces a 3/4 square shawl. Each wears differently and has a distinct look. The instructions are surprisingly simple with a 6 row set-up and then a 4 row repeat. It looks like you are doing something super fancy but it is an easy lace pattern.

Speaking of lace, combining lace and variegation is a significant challenge and I addressed this by choosing to use very linear and geometric lace columns to stand out among all of the color in the yarn. Of course these patterns would also look great in solid or speckled colors but they can handle the crazy too!

The 2 panel shawl uses the colorway Which Witch in the Kaleidoscope dye technique and the 3 panel shawl uses the colorway Which Witch in the Half Speckled dye technique.

When I received these yarns I couldn’t resist going with a subtle Halloween theme for the shawls, so if you want to knit a Halloween shawl this year but run a little under the radar go for it!
