Lily Chin was the inspiration for these sandals. Her book, The Urban Knitter which came out and I bought in 2002 had me salivating over ‘A Trio of Shoes: Ballet Slippers or Mary Janes, Striped Espadrille, and Ribbed Slide’ along with the ‘Sport and Evening Bras’. While I have made and love the bras, the soles for the shoe pattern seemed like an unconquerable feat. This year, while perusing in Hobby Lobby I came across the most astonishing thing….jute soles! Still unable to utilize Ms. Chin’s patterns, I was undaunted and came up with the following so we can all have hand-knitted shoes that are so comfortable you will wear them every day.

Of Note:

  • The soles and yarn wax are made by Dritz and their website is: www.dritz.com I have no affiliation with this company.
  • Yarn used for this pattern came from stash purchased at an estate sale and is now discontinued. Linen was chosen for the sandals because there is not much stretch and it breathes, but feel free to experiment.
  • No elastic is used for the strap so adjustments may be required for the length. My sandals have been worn for a month now and there have been no slippage issues.
