Knit this stylish Everyday tote bag from recycled cotton. This is a classic and a perfect accessory for everyday use. This bag is easy to knit and versatile. Carry your tote bag over your shoulder or shorten the handle and carry it in your hand. I knitted two color options. All slightly different, which one do you make? You can line the bag for an even nicer result, but by using the linen stitch, the bag hardly stretches.

Pattern notes:

  • To make sure your knitting is the same size as the pattern, it’s a good idea to do a test piece before you start your project. Adjust number of stitches/needles if necessary to achieve desired size. Sometimes you can knit a little tighter or looser to compensate, or by using a different size knitting needle.
  • The body of the bag is knitted in one piece in the round on circular needle, top down. The handles are worked back and forth in rows and sewn to the bag separately.
  • Because of the circular knitting there are no side seams, so the pattern continues nicely.
  • By using linen stitch (also called the weave stitch) your knitting hardly stretches.
  • The linen stitch is worked both in the round (you need an odd number of stitches) and back and forth in rows (you need an even number of stitches then)
  • Knit the linen stitch in one solid color or in two colors for a playful look. Knit the bag according to the pattern shown or add stripes in one color alternating with linen stitch in two colors for a more interesting effect.
