This is a sample of my current self-published pattern style (both the format and the level of detail provided).

It’s also a quick practice piece for my paid Lapham Cowl pattern, for those who might like to try stranded colorwork in the round with slightly larger yarn and needles. The cuffs’ motif is excerpted from the full pattern.

Why I recommend O-Wool’s O-Wash Sport mini-skeins: There are lots of beautiful, lightly tonal colors. When hand washed, it does not grow much. And the mini-skeins are perfect for small projects like this. (Yarn alternatives, based on given gauges and needles sizes: Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino, Quince & Co. Chickadee, and Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Sport.)

Skills Needed / Notes:
Cast on, join and work in the round, knit, purl, change needles between rounds, knit alternating between two balls of yarn, read a basic colorwork chart, and bind off.

  • The motif section of the pattern is charted only.
  • The strands not in use (floats) do not need to be caught.
  • Estimated level: Adventurous Beginner.

Finished Dimensions and Sizes:
7-1/4 in x 3-5/8 in (18.5 cm x 9.25 cm), after blocking.

To fit wrist circumferences of 6-1/4 - 7-1/2 in (15.75-19 cm).

Yarn:
O-Wool’s O-Wash Sport mini-skein (100% machine-washable certified organic merino, approx. 61 yd / 20 g), two mini-skeins in contrasting colors.

Dark blue sample shown in Night Heron (MC) and Springhouse (CC). MC requires about 18 yd (17 m), CC about 13 yd (12m).

The two mini-skeins are enough to make two pairs of cuffs, reversing the main color and the contrasting color.

Needles and Notions:

  • Circular knitting needles US sizes 1.5 (2.5 mm) and 3 (3.25 mm), 9” long, or sizes to obtain given gauge. (A US 1 (2.25 mm) needle may be substituted for the 1.5.)
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Stitch markers (optional).

Gauge:
Over colorwork pattern, knit in the round with size 3 (3.25 mm) circular needle: 29 stitches and 32 rounds = 4 in, after blocking. Please take time to save time and check your gauge.

Other Notes:
This pattern has been reviewed by experienced knitters, but has not been test knit or professionally tech edited. If you think you’ve found a mistake, I’d appreciate it if you’d let me know.
