The Exogamy Cowl was created after I received requests for a cowl version of the Exogamy shawl. Exogamy, meaning marriage outside of one’s clan, was the theme for an Outlander inspired shawl pattern for the TV series Blood of my Blood. This pattern uses the same mosaic crochet method and stitch pattern that was used for the Exogamy shawl. Initially worked flat, like the shawl, the cowl is then joined to work in-the-round. Each row is worked twice, once in one color then in the other. All chain floats on a row are concealed when working the following row, making the cowl completely reversible. This pattern really shows-off a beautiful gradient or color change yarn as the contrast color against a solid main color. Two skeins of sport weight yarn (minimum 310yds) are required to make this cowl.
