This pattern is a collection of sock parts to knit an individual Day of the Dead Sock through a process similar to the Exquisite Corpse game.

In Exquisite Corpse, a group of people cooperatively created a poem or visual art by adding words or images one after the other, following certain rules, and without knowing what the preceding person had done. It was a game popularized in the early 1900’s by surrealists.

We adapt that game to our socks, similar to the mix-and-match books for kids. There the pages are cut into thirds, the top third of the pages showing the head of a person or an animal, the middle third showing the torso, and the bottom third showing the legs. Children can create funny persons or animals by turning the pages. In terms of socks, our thirds will be toe & foot, gusset & heel, and leg & cuff, resulting in unique Halloween/Day-of-the-Dead socks for everyone here. Mix and match at your pleasure to create your personal Day of the Dead Sock!

The pattern (i.e. the rules of the game) includes:
•Several charts to use or not, as well as blank chart paper for you to design your own Halloween or Day of the Dead chart should you choose.
•A number of suggestions for the various options of the sock parts (sock thirds), including links to (free) sock patterns in the ravelry database featuring that part.
