Eye On The Prize is a large triangular-shaped shawl that explores a series of different patterns using simple eyelet lace stitches juxtaposed with garter stitch stripes. It is knitted in four colours. The main colour is a light fingering weight and the contrast colours are soft and fluffy lace-weight yarns (held double) creating a textural effect. Eye On The Prize is worked top down from written instructions. The striped border is knitted sideways, binding-off the shawl as it goes.

One size. Approximate dimensions of finished garment (after blocking) width at top edge: 252cm 99”, depth at centre of triangle: 81cm 32”.

MC: 1 x Poppy Yarn and Fibre Gobi Shawl light fingering (Peerie Lass).

CC1: 1 x Shibui, Silk Cloud lace (Velvet 2017) (held double with CC3).

CC2: 1 x Shibui, Silk Cloud lace (Cove 2038) (held double with CC3).

CC3: 1 x Notanotherhat upcycled 2 ply fine lace (Black Is The Colour)
 or Rowan Fine Lace

NOTE: CC1 and CC2 are formed by holding one strand of Shibui and one of Notanotherhat (ie. two strands, held double, and knitted as one yarn). CC3 is automatically present as part of the yarn, wherever CC1 or CC2 is mentioned.

Needles = 3.75mm circulars (35cm 14”PNs) to start, then at least 80cm 31”, when the shawl widens) or size to obtain gauge, although gauge is not strictly crucial in this shawl. Tapestry needle to weave in ends.

Skill level Intermediate – including top down construction, eyelet-lace work, yarn held double, border knitted sideways, short rows.
