Excluding the borders, there are 16 sections. This pattern is moderately easy to knit and can be varied as to colors and widths of stripes, as long as each stripe change begins at a point where the scalloped edge changes direction. It works up well in an ombre or gradient stripe pattern.

The dishcloth on the left can be made using the pattern with three modifications: use only one color way of yarn (can be self striping), cast on 44 stitches, and substitute the number 6 wherever the pattern says 10. Knit 12 sections to form a 10” x 10” square with one 2 oz. skein of Lily Sugar & Cream.
