The Fab Winter Hat is a super cosy knit in a chic urban style.

CONSTRUCTION
This hat is worked bottom up in a stockinette stitch pattern and subtly different colors.

Start with a provisional cast-on and knit the brim on the inside. At the bottom of the hat, change the yarn and needles to make the outside of the brim. (If you decided to go with my yarn choice, you knit the bling now!)

After that section, free the cast-on stitches and put them on a second pair of needles. Close the double brim with a 3-needle-seam and start the upper section. After reaching your desired height, shape the crown with some stylish decreases.

YARN
CaMaRose’s yarns Snefnug and Stjernestøv are super soft and cozy yarns I highly recommend. Both are blown yarns, lightweight, and made to match. If you like the elegant and subtle difference between my chosen colors, and the little glitter on the outside, plus would like to have the guarantee of an upstanding crown, this is your match made in heaven.

If you have a look at the knitters’ projects here, you will see that some of them use a more classic merino yarn in worsted weight and add a strand of mohair silk. I really like the versions where only this added strand changes the color.
I can’t recommend a 100% alpaca yarn for several reasons – most importantly because you will get a smurf hat.

SKILL LEVEL
Generally, my patterns are written for adventurous beginner and seasoned comfort-seeking knitters.

As an adventurous beginner knitter, you get to learn several new skills on a small fun project and with big needles in hand. From the provisional cast-on, to a 3-needle-seam over to the classic decreases and if you like to – even a bit of grafting.

There are interactive video links to all these techniques, so help is always just one click away!

Please believe me, I have been in your shoes not that long ago and I do remember those first stitches. Whenever I write my patterns, you are on my mind and I give my very best to hold your hands and guide you all the way to the finishing round.

For seasoned comfort-seeking knitters this is an easy fun quick knit that won’t bore you – promised! There are some details you might not know yet, for example: Did you ever graft the last round of a hat?

As a long-time knitter, you know the difference between a pattern that has been tech edited and test knitted – and one that hasn’t. As you like to knit from quality patterns, please let me assure you that the Fab Winter Hat has gone through both thoroughly.

I might not have your years of experience, but I am totally obsessed with knitting. I know, that after reaching a certain level, you want to be able to skip several parts of a pattern and get straight to the cast-on. That’s why I keep the instructions always separated from everything else and make sure they are easy to read and can be printed in black & white. Sounds good, right!?
