There’s a lot of patterns out there for crocheted bands with buttons to hold the elastic straps on face masks. This ear saver is a little bit of a different design - it’s a simple sturdy loop to hold the elastic straps, and uses only one button.

  • Hook: size G (4.25 mm)
  • Yarn: 100% cotton is preferred because it can be washed with hot water after use to kill germs
  • Yardage: 30-35 yards in main color, 10-12 yards in contrast color
  • Gauge: 9 sc in 2 inches
  • Sizes: women’s small/medium/large, men’s small/medium/large (women’s large and men’s small are the same size; women’s small can also be a child’s large)
  • Notions: needle and thread, 1” or 1 ½” button
  • Stitches used: chain (ch), single crochet (sc), waistcoat or knit stitch (kn st) This stitch is made by working in the v of each st; it’s easy to find tutorials online and videos on YouTube. It can be substituted for regular sc through both loops.
