I designed this pattern to teach students how to do stranded color work. Everyone who has taken the class so far has ended up with a lovely looking flap hat and most students have gone on to do more in-depth fair isle work.

This pattern is also a wonderful way to use up some of your stash yarn (just make sure it is worsted weight yarn). If you use 5 skeins of Berroco Ultra Alpaca then you will have enough yarn to make 5 hats! True story.

The pattern also gives you two options for the edge - a crochet edge or an applied I-cord edge. The main color is used for the flaps, the crown and you choose where within the fair isle pattern to use it one more time. This pattern does follow a 21 st and a 29 round color coded chart. Have fun and let me know if you have any questions. xo
