Inspired by fair isle knitting, I present my contribution to the FATW6 CAL featured in the CAL – Crochet A Long group on Facebook, directed by Laurene Leeseberg Bluder. This simple pattern is best worked up in dk weight, or size 3 yarn and is made up in overlay mosaic crochet. The mosaic scheme is worked flat from the foundation chain with color changes alternating between setting and contrasting colors. These are worked at the beginning of each row with (slst, ch 1, SC) to anchor work, and secured with a (SC, ch 1) at the end leaving a 2” long tail long tail. Ch 1 at the beginning and end of row does not count as a stitch and is not worked. Mosaic Double Crochet stitches are worked in Front-loop of Back-loop Single Crochet and/or Mosaic Double Crochet two rows below in like color, except where setting color changes.

Please find a chart of the mosaic pattern on Page 4, which includes X’s designating the placement of each Mosaic Double Crochet stitch (or treble stitch in UK terms) is placed. Note the first and last single crochet of each row delineating the color changes are not illustrated in the chart, and the first and last single crochet (or double crochet in UK terms) are not included in the stitch counts where indicated. The pattern repeats every 4 stitches across and works up in a beautiful trichromatic motif – enjoy!
