The Fairlea Hat is an easy-to-wear unisex ribbed hat that will keep your head toasty. Because the ribbing allows for very forgiving sizing, one hat will fit a range of head sizes, making it perfect for children, gifting, or charity knitting!

The knit Pom on top adds a super cute optional feature. No need to figure out how to wind and secure a traditional Pom—just knit it and be done! And no worrying about strands coming loose. (Plus, if you want an on-the-go snowball, you’re ready to go!)

The crown decreases create a lovely rounded shape, while keeping the crown tidy and carefully thought out.

The pattern has been tech edited and test knit. It includes clearly written instructions and video tutorial support.

Hat pattern includes instructions for either a fingering weight OR worsted weight hat, in four sizes. The sizes range to fit every head, from newborn to the largest adult head (14”-30”/35-76cm)

The pattern explains how to create a removable Pom, but attach it as you wish. Pom is made with 4 strands of the Alpaca Fluff (or other fluffy lace weight yarn) held together. One 50g skein of Alpaca Fluff should be enough to knit 3-4 Poms.

Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4)
Finished circumference
1: Newborn - Child S: 14”-20”/35-51cm
2: Child M - Adult XS: 17”-24”/43-61cm

4: Adult L - XL: 22”-30”/56-76cm

All hat sizes are written for both fingering weight and worsted weight yarn.

Gauge
In pattern ribbing, at rest (not stretched):
Fingering wt: 45 sts x 36 r = 4”/10cm
Worsted wt: 38 sts x 29 r = 4”/10cm
In reverse stockinette:
Pom: 4 sts x 7 r = 1”/2.5cm
Gauge is not blocked.

Yarn
1 - 100g skein of either fingering OR worsted weight yarn
1 - 50g skein lace wt fluffy yarn

Sample Yarn
Fingering: lolodidit Lolo’s Favorite (80% sw merino wool, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon; 430 yds/100g): “Bourbon”; Size 4; on 22” head
