This is a very simple, beginner-friendly, overlay mosaic crochet pattern that features interlocking squares (or near-squares; hence the name “Fairly Square”).

Each repeat is 51 stitches wide and 42 rows high, creating a repeat block that is approximately 11” wide by 9” high using DK weight yarn and a 4mm hook.
For each repeat block you will need approximately 79m/87yds of Colour A (pattern colour - black in the photos) and 86m/94yds of Colour B (background colour - grey in the photos) in DK weight yarn.

Your yarn usage and sizing may differ based on the yarn weight chosen, the corresponding hook size and tension.
Gauge is not required for this pattern.

Example for a small throw in DK weight yarn:
You will need to make a blanket that is 4 repeats wide by 6 repeats high. (44” wide, 55” high, excluding frame and envelope border)
You will need approximately:
1900m/2080yds of colour A
2070m/2265yds of colour B
This estimate does not include the border yarn.

Materials:
2 contrasting colours of yarn in any weight you like.
4mm hook (or corresponding hook size).
Scissors.

Charts with X’s are included for Right and Left handed crocheters.
This is a chart only pattern, there is no written pattern.

Instructions for changing colours mid row is included if you would like to add pops of colour throughout the blanket. There is also a useful video link for a visual source of assistance. However I have not specified where in the pattern you need to change colours as this is up to the individual crocheter!
