I have so much lace and fingering weight yarn that I have no idea what to do with it, or so I thought. I finally got around to making something out of some of it. I usually love what lace looks like, but it takes me so long, and even when the project is going great, I get bored and abandon it. (I’m terrible, I know).

However, this kimono (semi kimono?) turned out perfectly for what I was going for. The pattern is interesting enough to keep you focused but simple enough that you don’t get bored of constantly looking at the chart to keep up with where you are in the pattern.

I crocheted this pattern up twice (mostly to make sure it was written correctly), and I played with the collar a bit. One version has more of a rolled/drape collar, while the other has a more structured look. Both versions are included in the written pattern.

As of right now, the pattern is only available in a small/medium. However, it is incredibly simple to adjust the size by adding a couple pattern repeats to make the back longer and adding a few rows on either side of the armholes to make it wider.

The gauge is 21 chains = 4 inches, which ends up being about 6 pattern repeats.

Depending on which yarn you use, the number of skeins (and price) will vary. I used both Patons Lace (purple) and Knit Picks Palette yarn (green), and both versions came out lovely. Patons lace came out with a drapier feeling and is a tad softer and Palette holds up more of a structured feeling. So, choose what’s best for you!
