These are nicest made with a lofty wool yarn that gets 7 stitches/10 rows per inch on a standard gauge Japanese machine. This takes stitch size 10 on my Studio 328 due to the fuzziness of the yarn, even though the stitches are a size that normally knits in the mid-range on the dial. The samples are alpaca and deliciously warm. The tuck stitch allows the fabric to adjust a bit to the hand of the wearer. Circumference of mittens is about 6.5, 7, 7.5”. Length from hem just below
thumb to fingertips is about 6.2, 6.75, 7.25”. Size will vary slightly depending on which tuck pattern is used. The first size is for children, the next size for most adult women, the largest for most men. These are sized just a bit smaller than stockinette mittens due to the
stretchiness of tuck stitch fabric.
