The Fandabbydosey Cosy was born from a desire to learn a new technique and pass it on to others in a workshop situation.
For ease in the classroom we used one 50 g pack of roving Wool Assorted Brights by Trimits from Groves & Banks. This pack contains 10 g of roving in each of five colours. Similar products are available from Rayner-Hobby, Rico, Clover, etc.
This is an 8 page pattern containing 3 photo tutorials:

  1. Preparation of roving using a 50 g assorted pack of 5 colours.
  2. Making thrums.
  3. Knit in a thrum.

The pattern has written and charted insrtuctions, alongside helpful diagrams and photographs.

Requirements:

Yarn
• Wendy Traditional Aran
1 ball in 193 Light Grey (MC)

Thrums
• Wool Roving
10 g lemon yellow (T1) 10 g blaze orange (T2) 10 g fuchsia (T3)
10 g olive green (T4) 10 g spruce (T5)

If you prefer a ‘cosier’ cosy, increase the roving amount of T2, T3 and T4 to 15 g. This will allow for an overall distribution of larger, more evenly sized thrums.

Tension
16 sts x 23 rows = 10 cm over thrummed pattern, after blocking.

Needles
• 4.5 mm (US 7) straight needles. Or size required to obtain gauge.
• 2 x 4.5 mm (US 7) double pointed needles. Required for i-cords only.
Fig 2
• wool needle.

Size
Using the recommended yarn at the correct gauge this cosy will measure approximately 21.5 cm (8 1⁄2 in) in height from base to top (not including i-cord loop). 34 cm (13 1⁄2 in) in width.
