This is my second experiment with the Feather and Fan stitch. The first was Sangfroid. I loved the look of the flaring stitch pattern so I decided to try it on both ends of a scarf. The stitch count on each half does not match exactly by that was necessary to insure that the pattern would continue without interruption in opposite directions.

This shawl uses six 100 yd mini skeins of Yarn in the Box A Bit of Indulgence. It is not necessary for you to use this specific yarn but you will need approximately 600 yards of fingering weight yarn to complete this project as written. The finished Scarf is 69” x 5 ½ ” flaring to 18 ½” at both ends after blocking. It begins with at provisional CO and is worked from the center to both ends. 100 yards is worked straight and 200 yards is used to create the flare on each half.

Instructions are both fully written and charted to allow for individual preferences. It is also easy to modify the width of this scarf if you are not afraid to do a little math. Just add or subtract 18 from your cast on and do one less or one more repeat of the pattern stitch.
