The idea for this bag started when I needed something that could fit into my purse, a bag that I could use when I picked up my summer CSA farm share every week after work. This is the result: a light-weight, strong bag that expands as you fill it.

The pattern starts by creating a dense, garter stitch base, which supports the bag and keeps things inside, then it is knit upwards in a simple mesh lace stitch. Handles are added by casting on stitches in your final rounds on the bag edge. There’s very little finishing besides weaving in your ends so you’ll easily have one or two of these ready for the summer famer’s market.

-Knit in the round on 4mm needles (dpn then circular needles).

-Uses about 350-400 yards of worsted weight cotton, pattern suggests using at least 2 different colors (suggested brands are Lion Brand Cotton-Ease or Knit Picks Dishie)

-One size but includes notes on changing sizing and handle lengths. Pattern also includes color ideas.
