Faux Mistake Rib Touque was inspired by several other fun crochet hat patterns, and has been updated with techniques learned from slip stitch crochet designer, Lyudmila Hefny. This iteration of the hat was designed to complement “Northmoor Watchcaps”, a knitted hat designed by Luise O’Neill. “Faux Mistake” and “Northmoor” were chosen for the August ’22 HAL for the “Hats for Sailors” Ravelry group.

As this hat is crocheted side-to-side in narrow wedges, it’s easy to adapt to whatever size you wish to crochet, with whatever yarn you choose. As designed, the hat is extra tall to allow for a generous turn-up of the brim, but it can easily be adapted to a single layer beanie style by just reducing the number of stitches in the hatband and/or body.

This hat looks great in a solid color, or in a long self-striping yarn. Short color-break variegated yarns might work, but can be overwhelming.

Mistake on the chart. Forgot to explain “T” in the chart key. T = hdc.
