When the weather starts to get chilly, I always find myself reaching for gloves and mittens. However, I get super annoyed when I have to take them off to use my phone. Enter the Favorite Cable Mitts, the solution to this constant problem! Each mitt is basically a small tube with a gorgeous cable in the center and a thumb opening on the side, so it keeps your hand pretty and warm, but your fingers are exposed so you can actually use them. Handy, right? (no pun intended ;)

The yarn featured in this design is Three Irish Girls Springvale Worsted, a beautiful hand-dyed superwash merino from my local yarn shop, Stars Hollow Yarns. I recently got a job there on weekends, and I am having the time of my life! You can shop both in-store and online, so even if you aren’t local, you can still purchase the yarn used in the pattern (or choose from a variety of other high-quality worsted weight yarns). I was able to make a pair of these mitts AND a Favorite Cable Headband with the same skein of yarn!

MATERIALS

  • Approx 84 yds (77 m) of worsted weight (4) yarn. I used less than half of a skein of Three Irish Girls Springvale Worsted in “Brandy Alexander,” available at Stars Hollow Yarns.

  • US size 8 dpns, or circular needles if you prefer the magic loop method.

  • Common notions such as a cable needle, measuring tape, yarn needle, scissors, etc.

MEASUREMENTS

Each mitt is approx 6.5” (16.5 cm) around x 6.5” (16.5 cm) tall

GAUGE

20 sts x 28 rows = 4” (10 cm) in stockinette stitch
