Note to Favorite Simple Hat Knitters: I will be adding a child’s version of the pattern (for free). This version fits my 3-year-old grandson, but would fit older and younger kids, as well. It will be smaller and have a slightly different decrease series. Not sure when exactly, but sometime in the near future. So look out for that. I added a few photos at the end of the kids’ version to come.

Pattern Introduction:
This is my all-time favorite go-to hat. I’ve made the Favorite Simple Hat at least a dozen times exactly as written in this pattern, and I’ve made lots of variations, too. It’s fun, easy, and everyone loves it. I gift these hats for birthdays, Christmas, and for no reason at all. I have to say that I’ve only made the hats for the men in my family, but there is no reason it couldn’t fit absolutely any person! The hat fits me great. The big folded ribbed brim is in style now and always.

Finished size: About 19.5 inches in circumference unstretched.
One size to fit about a 20 to 24-inch head. It’s a very stretchy hat to fit a wide range.

Yarn
One skein of either Barrett Wool Co.’s Home Worsted or one skein of Wisconsin Woolen Spun Worsted.
-The marled sample in the photos is knit using two strands of Wisconsin Woolen Spun Fingering Weight held together throughout; this hat turned out on the slightly bigger end.
-Yarn amount used is about 80 grams of worsted weight per hat.

Needles
US 7 / 4.5 mm 16-inch circular and double-pointed needles or your preferred method for working a small circumference in the round.
Notes on needle size: I use US size 7 needles for the entire hat. For a more snug fit use a US size 6. Or for a snug-fitting brim use a US 6 for 4-5-inches and then change to the US size 7.

Use the needle size to get the correct gauge.
