Inspiration

This pattern was inspired by the UK’s Supreme Court decision to strip trans women of their rights as women in Mai 2025, and by the lobbying role of a former author and her use of her royalties in that decision.
Said former author then set up a fund to finance lawsuits pursuing trans people, specifically women, and organizations protecting trans women.

Usage, size, yarn

This pattern can be made into an afghan block or incorporated into a sweater or your current sock project. I used the yarns specified (2 strands Holst supersoft, 1 strand Lamana Cosma) for good grip, but any other yarn that is not too slippery can be used.
At its widest point, the writing plus 1 stitch on each side is ~35cm wide with the specified yarn. One row of letters amounts to ~7cm in height.
Please be aware that using a different yarn will change the size of the letters accordingly.

For maximum effect, use the trans pride colors as shown in the image or your favorite pride flag.

Color work techniques

Row/round numbers are for intarsia or stranded colorwork, if you use slipped stitch/mosaic, work each row double (back and forth).

Another option for mosaic, if you want to work each row only once, but the current stitch is in the “wrong” color: pick the closest stitch in the current color, create a new stitch like in M1L/M1R, and work the new stitch through the stitch of the wrong color.
This techqnique requires you to work a slightly less dense fabric in order to have wiggle room for new stitches.
