Usually, we think of stripes as being primarily visual and defined by different colors. The stripes in this cowl pattern are defined by texture, rather than color (although you could certainly work the pattern in two colors if you wanted to play up more of the visual element). Hence the name, “Feel Those Stripes”.

This is a pattern for a cowl that can be made using bulky (weight 5) or super bulky ( weight 6) yarn. The longer version (Version 1 - 37 inches) I made using a bulky weight yarn. The shorter, chunkier version (Version 2 - 31 inches) uses the super bulky weight fiber. The longer version can be worn up around your neck, as a cowl, but is also large enough to be pulled down around the shoulder, like a capelet or wrap. I think you could also make this pattern in a lighter, worsted weight yarn; you would just want to increase the number of rows to make it wide enough that you’re happy with the result. Instructions for an alternate edging are also provided.

This cowl is quick to make and the stitch pattern is easily learned. It also requires a small amount of yarn -- 2 skeins or less. The shorter version takes about 160 yards, and the longer version takes about 200 yards.
