Felt seat pad
The seat pad is made of wool using the interlocking crochet technique and has been felted in the washing machine afterwards.
Interlocking crochet is a technique where two layers in different colors are crocheted together to form a relief picture. The two layers are called the relief colour (RC) and the background colour (BC).
Felting is a very fun process and it gives the seat pad a lovely texture.
The seat pads measurements approx. 30 x 40 cm after felting.
There are three different designs.
Patterns are in English (US terminology) and Danish (Danish terminology).
Level: Experienced crocheter
Please read about ‘Support’ below
Yarn
- 100% pure wool (see NOTE below)
- Category 5 / Bulky
- 50g / 70 metres
NOTE: Be aware that not all wool yarn is suitable for felting. For example, superwash-treated yarn CANNOT be felted. You need to choose pure wool, and be prepared to experiment, as the final result depends on the yarn, hook, crochet gauge, and washing (felting) process.
There are as mentioned three different designs. Materials list for one seat pad:
- Relief colour (RC): 85g / 120m
- Background colour (BC): 85g / 120m
- Hook: 7 mm
- Stitch markers (2 pcs)
- Needle for weaving in ends
Support
This is not a beginners project, but if you are an experienced crocheter and the technique is new to you, you will learn it by crocheting the ‘test square’, which also serves as a basis for experimenting with the felting process.
The pattern for the test square is included and it explains the techniques, and provides some tips, and tricks. There is a lot of pictures and QR codes/links for youtube tutorials.
