Fenja is one of the two ferries going from Esbjerg to Fanø (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fan%C3%B8), my favorite island for spending a relaxed holiday at the Danish seaside.
For me, the ferries – although practical ships and nothing beautiful about them – represent the final step on the way to the island, leaving the mainland behind and diving into the vacation.

(By the way, the other ferry is called Menja, which has provided the name for the ‘sister’ tunic/ sweater from Light Fingering weight yarn which was published a few weeks before, the sunny weather version.) Fenja, however, is meant for the grey, cloudy, colder, even stormy days when you need a cardigan to keep you warm.

For both Fenja cardigan and Menja sweater, I am using my ‘YoRa’ construction, top-down with Raglan increases in the back and yoke increases spread evenly over the rest of the row, for a rounded front neck.

Fenja cardigan is started at the neck with a provisional cast-on and worked top-down. The basic 10-row-repeat uses a simple slip stitch pattern in 2 variations to lower the front neck a little bit.
After the yoke is done, the body is really mindless knitting. Pockets are worked separately and joined later. All edges (including buttonholes) are worked in two colors at the very end, using a 2-color-bindoff method.

Yarn requirements:
Use a Sport weight yarn which knits up to the gauge of 24 sts x 34 rows.
1250/ 1350/ 1450/ 1570/ 1700 m of main color (MC) needed;
100-150 m of contrast color (CC) yarn in 1, 2 or many different shades.
(For my sample in size L, I have used 415g MC and 10+20g CC.)

This design is a cooperation with Wolle Willich - please see here and here for their special yarn from local sheep which I have used.

Buttons: I suggest 10 (15mm) buttons.

Bust width for sizes S/ M/ L/ XL/ XXL:
88/ 96/ 104/ 112/ 120 cm.
