Fenja is one of the two ferries going from Esbjerg to Fanø, my favorite island for spending a relaxed holiday at the Danish seaside. You might already know this from my Fenja cardigan in Sport weight which I have released in 2018.

Fenja Aran is based on the same idea, but with a gauge of 19 sts instead of 24 and a few modifications which occurred to me when I was working on my second Fenja (Sport) sample: It is significantly longer, without the pockets, but with slip stitch pattern on the skirt. And it includes a hood which is not removable (to avoid bulk in the back neck with the thicker yarn).

For the big sister too, I am using my “YoRa” construction, top-down with Raglan increases in the back and yoke increases spread evenly over the rest of the row, for a rounded front neck. Fenja Aran is started at the neck with a provisional cast-on and worked top-down. The basic 10-row-repeat uses a simple slip stitch pattern in 2 variations to lower the front neck a little bit.

After the yoke is done, the body is really mindless knitting. For the hood, you simply use the stitches from the neck’s provisional cast-on and work in the opposite direction. All edges (including buttonholes) are worked in two colors at the very end.

MC: 1500/ 1600/ 1700/ 1800/ 1900 m of an ARAN yarn needed
CC: 200-250m (might be distributed between several colors)
This is sufficient for a coat of approx. 80cm overall length including the hood.
Please note that when using the suggested yarn (which is Fingering Weight), you will need TWICE of the given yardage, because the yardage was calculated for Worsted/ Aran weight.
The sample in size L weights approx. 850g.
