Fern Valley Hat
Meet Fern Valley Hat
Designed in collaboration with Northwest Yarns for the 2025 Puget Sound Local Yarn Shop Tour.
Inspired by crunchy Bellingham style and knit in an earthy green “Cryptid” sport-weight BFL from Leviathan Fibers, Fern Valley is a satisfying, approachable hat that’s just as at home on the trail as it is in the coffee line. Its textured woven stitch is knit with simple 1/1 cables—no cable needle required—and includes video tutorials to guide you through the special stitches.
Wear it Your Way
Whether you fold the brim for extra warmth or leave it relaxed for a slouchy look, Fern Valley fits into any Pacific Northwest wardrobe. Quick to knit, stash-friendly, and easy to memorize, it’s the kind of pattern you’ll reach for again and again.

Construction Overview
Fern Valley is worked in the round from the brim to the crown. It begins with a 1x1 ribbed brim, followed by a textured “woven stitch” made from alternating stripes of right- and left-leaning 1/1 cables—no cable needle required! The crown shaping flows naturally from the stitch pattern into a tidy star-shaped finish.
Construction Notes:
- Knit in the round from brim to crown.
- Brim worked in 1x1 ribbing.
- Body features simple, directional 1/1 cables.
- Crown shaping creates subtle star detailing.
- Includes captioned video tutorials.
- Style folded or slouchy.
