Sundaze is a relaxed summer top designed to move, breathe, and feel effortless to wear. The fabric is light and airy, with texture created from a simple loop stitch made mostly of knits and slip stitches and very little purling.

The real personality arrives at the hem. A handworked macrame mesh (video tutorial included) finishes the sweater, completed with a wrap knot and fringe you can customize to suit your style. Keep it long and dramatic or short and subtle. The finishing is part of the project and makes each Sundaze feel personal.

Design Details

The vertical texture creates clean lines through the garment while the relaxed proportions give it an easy summer shape. The fringe hem adds movement and a soft handmade feel that works just as well with denim as it does layered over a dress.

Because the macrame is worked after the knitting is finished, you can decide the final look at the very end. Adjust the fringe length, spacing, and fullness to your preference.

Pattern Highlights

  • Airy textured fabric for warm weather
  • Loop stitch pattern that settles into an easy rhythm
  • Customizable macrame fringe finishing
  • A different knitting experience from traditional top down sweaters

Construction Overview

Sundaze is worked side to side. The right sleeve is worked first in the round, then the garment transitions to flat knitting across the body using the loop stitch texture. The vertical stitch pattern runs continuously from hem to neckline.

After the front and back are complete, the shoulders are joined with a three needle bind off and the left sleeve is worked in the round to match. The macrame mesh and fringe are added directly to the live hem stitches as the finishing step.

Yarn Notes

Our sample was knit in Knitting for Olive Cotton Merino Fingering. The blend combines cotton’s breathability with wool’s elasticity so the fabric keeps its shape while staying cool and comfortable.

Yarns with good drape work especially well here. Cotton, silk, linen, bamboo blends, or soft wool blends all suit the design.
