The woods are my sanctuary, and each design I make reflects some element of the natural world that calls to my heart. I love the promise of unfurling fiddlehead ferns each spring.

Two worsted weight, high-contrast yarns work well for this pattern, but you can also make a great variegated look like sun filtering through trees by holding three strands of sock yarn together, as I did for the sample.

Yardage is listed as total for large hat. For 18” hat, you will need minimum 100 yards of background color, 90 yards for contrast color. For 22” hat, you will need minimum 120 yards of background color, 105 yards for contrast.

Test knitter suggestions: If you are a looser colorwork knitter, feel free to size down from US8 to US7 needle, as the gauge change will not affect the fit of the hat enough to make a big difference.
