About:
The Fieldstone Beanie is a simple stranded colourwork design, using three colours of your favourite fingering weight yarn. You will only ever be using 2 strands of yarn on each round which makes for easy yarn management.
This beanie has a wide, folded over brim, for extra warmth and style. It also has the option to work a single brim if you choose. The pattern is both written and charted so you can work in your preferred style. The Fieldstone Beanie is designed to be made in 4 different sizes from Infant up to a Large Adult head circumference.
The pattern is worked from the brim up, ending with simple decreasing for the crown.
Many of my designs are inspired by nature and the beauty that is reflected in the landscapes that make up our beautiful country Aotearoa, New Zealand. This beanie has been designed to reflect the moss-lined stone walls that we see in more historical areas of the New Zealand countryside.
Recommended yarn: Fingering / 4ply
Gauge: 28 sts and 38 rnds = 10 cm / 4 in in colourwork pattern, worked in the round, after blocking
A Note on Choosing Yarn:
This is an opportunity to explore and play with colourways, textures, and shades. I recommend choosing yarns which have good contrast, different tones of colour. For example, a deep, a medium and a light tone or shade. This way your colours will stand out from each other and you will see the pattern design clearly. A good tip is to take a photo in black and white and see how the shades interact.
Recommended needles: (adjust needles to meet gauge)
2.5mm / US1.5 for ribbing and 3mm / US2.5 circular needles, DPNs, or preferred method for working small circumferences in the round.
