Fieldway is a light and airy shawl inspired by the long walks in Sonoma in the summer. This shawl takes advantage of elongated triangular shaping, allowing you to achieve a generous wingspan with just one full skein and a mini. It’s a perfect stash-busting project that results in a wide, flowing, and easy-to-wear accessory.

Fieldway features a rhythmic mix of geometric lace, crossed stitches, and purl ridges. It is worked from the top down and can be adjusted for a different yardage simply by choosing when to stop at the final lace stripe.

Needles and Gauge

• US 4 / 3.5mm needles on a long cable or the size needed to obtain gauge below

Construction

• The shawl is knit flat with elongated triangular shaping. Positioning of increases creates a piece with longer tips and narrower middle compared to a classic triangular shawl.
• The shawl starts with a garter tab which flows into garter edging - the first and last 3sts of each row are worked in garter stitch.
• The pattern features several stitch patterns: single and double purl ridges, stockinette, simple lace, crossed stitches, and chevron lace.
• The final stripe (chevron lace) can be knitted to any desired width. It also creates a naturally wavy edge that can then be accentuated in blocking.
