A Pi shawl with reverse stockinette sections and highlights of an accent yarn
O Ignis Spiritus Paracaliti
Hildegard von Bingen
This shawl was inspired by both the mirrored nature of the music, as well as the line “life within life,” from within the song. A pi shawl is a perfect reflection of continual growth, or life coming from itself. The mirrored stitches and increases mean that the shawl grows outward. This bulky weight shawl is also the perfect “armor of the heart and hope,” being big enough that you can wrap it around yourself to keep yourself safe and warm.
Fiery Spirit is perfect for that one skein of beautiful handspun, art yarn, or leftover yarn that you want to use every yard of. Pair it with a bulky yarn for a comfy and warm shawl that you can wear through all of the cold months.
1 skein of Bernat Velvet Stripes in Hemlock Shadow - 315 yards per 300 grams
1 skein of In The Ply in Sucker Punch - 59 yards per 57 grams
Alternatives: Any Bulky Weight yarn with a nice drape so the shawl is not super heavy and can be folded to be worn in your preferred style
Final yardage:
311 yards of Bernat Velvet
59 yards of In the Ply
Final dimensions: 36 inches in diameter
There are instructions for adding your accent yarn, but you can use how much of it as you’d like throughout the whole shawl.
This is a sister shawl to A Fiery Spirit - a crochet shawl designed with the same ideas, just a different modality
