The Fiesta Scallop Shawl makes full use of the long color runs in Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable yarn to show off the sunrise colors in the individually knit scallops along the bottom edge and in the short rows. I used less than 3 skeins in this shawl. Although this yarn is worsted weight, it is a roving type yarn and more like a light worsted. You could also use a DK weight yarn. If you use a variegated yarn with short color runs, you will get a much different visual effect. I used US7/4.5mm straight needles for the scallops and US7/4.5mm, 48” cord circular needle for the shawl body.

PLEASE NOTE: CORRECTION TO YARDAGE AMOUNT: 630-640 yards. Allow THREE skeins of RH Unforgettable (now manufactured with 270 yards per skein. Previous skeins had 280 yards per skein) Errata report above is correction to yardage amount.

Fiesta Scallop is knit from the bottom up, beginning with creating the scallops - so there is something interesting to work on right from the start of this pattern. Picking up stitches for the next scallop and for the main body of the shawl means that there is no seaming and very few ends to weave in! I have included a schematics and a photo tutorial, step-by-step, so that you can clearly see the construction.

Skills needed: Ability to K2tog, yarn over, yarn around needle, pick up stitches and work wrap and turn short rows. The short rows produce the crescent shape and wrapping the yarn around the stitch when turning prevents a hole in the fabric of the shawl.
I have included instructions. There are many online tutorials if you need help with wrap and turn technique, so you will have fun making this interesting shawl and maybe learning a new skill or two.

The blocked shawl is an elongated oval shape (eye shape) with the scallops along the bottom edge. I definitely recommend a light blocking of this shawl to show off the detail in the scallops and eyelet section.
WARNING: Please be very careful if steam blocking. If you over-block your shawl with steam or touch the shawl with a hot iron you can ruin all your hard work and there is no going back once acrylic yarn is steam blocked.

Blocked measurements: Length: 74”/ 185cms; Height at center: 18”/ 45cms; each scallop is 5”/12.5cms from cast on edge to tip.

Thank you for knitting the Fiesta Scallop Shawl. Hope you enjoy wearing it.
