Fīfta, (pronounced feef-ta) is the Old English word for fifth; a very fitting name for this hat. I see many designs that are based on quarters, sixths or eighths, but it is less often that the odd numbers get a look in. So, this hat celebrates the fifth in all its glory. Five plaited brioche columns are separated by five areas of colourful garter stitch. You can also choose between a classic beanie and a more slouchy shape.

Techniques:
Brioche knit and purl, increasing and decreasing, working in the round.

Measurements:
Adult size S, M, L. To fit head size: 2022,24 inches, 5055,60 cm
Actual size: 1820,22 inches, 44.550,55.5 cm

Tension:
19 stitches and 20 rows to 10cm/4inches in brioche pattern.

This hat is worked from the bottom-up in the round. The pattern is available in 3 sizes (S, M and L) and two options for fit (beanie and slouchy). In order for the hat to fit snuggly, there is negative ease built into the pattern. This means that the finished size is smaller than the size of head it will fit. Please take this into account when choosing which size to knit.

Yarn Choice
Any DK weight yarn should work well with this pattern. Choose two strongly contrasting colours for the best effect.
