A pretty butterfly dances on a field of mesh in this filet crochet butterfly square. Learn filet crochet with this fun and easy pattern! Make it with any yarn or thread, with solid wings or lacy wings, and as a stand-alone square or as part of a larger project. So many possibilities!

Regarding gauge/size/yardage:

This pattern can be made in any size yarn or thread, using a hook about 1 size (.5mm) smaller than you would normally use for that yarn or thread.

The yardage, size, gauge, and hook listed here are all for the lacy sample shown, which was made in worsted weight, acrylic yarn.

For the solid sample, I used fingering weight, wool sock yarn and a size C (2.75mm) hook. I used 3 separate colors, with about 42 yds each for the top and bottom mesh sections, and about 90 yds for the middle butterfly section.
