Filet mesh stitch is easy to execute and creates a lovely light and airy fabric. Each filet block is made up of a double crochet and a chain. The soft filet mesh fabric is great for cowls and scarves.

The fabric in this project is further softened by using a larger hook than recommended on the yarn label. I like to work with the largest hook I can for softness but not so large that the stitches look sloppy. It’s best to make a gauge swatch to experiment until you find the hook size which gives you just the fabric you want.

This cowl is just a simple tube. You make a chain long enough to drape comfortably around your neck twice then you join the end to the beginning to form a circle. You then work joined rounds of the filet mesh stitch until you have the depth you like.

I hope you enjoy making this cowl and I look forward to seeing your projects on ravelry. :)

Cheers, Susan
