Inspired by “Filey Pattern X” in Patterns for Guernseys, Jerseys and Arans by Gladys Thompson, these mitts use side-to side construction with a 3-needle cast off, afterthought thumb and cuff placket for a quick project with lots of interesting details.

The mitts are knit flat with only a small amount of knitting in the round required for the thumb.

Sizing

One size, 18cm/7” circumference, 21cm/81⁄4” length
To fit women’s medium hand worn with 1.25cm/1⁄2” negative ease or up to 1.25cm/1⁄2” positive ease. The pattern includes suggestions about how to increase or decrease the circumference to fit larger or smaller hands.

Needles
3.75mm/US 5 knitting needles (straight, or circular if you prefer)
3.75mm/US 5 dpns for the afterthought thumb.
You will also need a cable needle, stitch markers, a locking stitch marker/safety pin, smooth DK weight scrap yarn and 6 9mm/1/3” buttons.
