An Oversized shawl knitted with minis or leftovers and a contrasting colour.

Joy can be found in the smallest of things if we are given the opportunity to notice them. Our lives are made up of an infinite number of these tiny moments, all coming together to make a story or a fabric which is unique to every one of us.
This shawl was knitted using twelve minis skeins and one full skein of fingering weight yarn. The dramatic effect of the changing colours would be just as beautiful using different sized leftovers from previous projects. This design allows you to find your own joy as you knit your small things together into an oversized winged triangle with plenty of texture from welted stripes.
Will you add tassels for some extra flair?

This pattern describes the main colour as twelve different 20g mini skeins. At the end of each colour, I simply joined the new skein with a Russian join (a magic knot or split splicing could work too) and kept knitting. I wanted to be sure I would have no yarn left over. The shawl would look equally as stunning if you used 240g of a single colour, or many different colours from your leftover bin.

YARN
Fingering weight yarn
Sample used: 12 x 20g minis as MC
100g skein of CC
Yarn requirements include yarn needed for optional tassels.

NEEDLES
US 5 (3.75mm) needles on a long cable - 40” (100cm) or larger to accommodate large wingspan of shawl.

GAUGE AND SIZE
20 sts and 39 rows in Garter Stitch over 4” (10cm), knitted flat
Depth: 32”
Wingspan: 104”

The welting technique used in this pattern produces rows of raised stitches which resemble i-cord. There are written and video instructions included. This is also sometimes known as Tuck Stitch.

The tassels are optional - Your shawl will look just as beautiful without them! If you decide to add them, you could make them with any of the yarn that you used for your shawl or use them to introduce a new pop of colour. There are no rules with this project, anything goes!! Have fun and find your joy!!!
