These fingerless gloves are worked in garter from the side rather than top or bottom so that they stretch around your hands and stay an even length. While worked flat, they produce a 3D shape that fits the hand and uses provisional cast ons and 3 needle bind off to eliminate the need to graft or stitch.

Four sizes are include in the pattern with the differences created by gauge rather than stitch count. Suggested yarn and needle combinations are given to reach the relevant gauge. Rather than working to a stitches per inch I recommend you knit the first 7 rows and measure the entire work comparing to measurements given in the pattern which is far easier for dark yarn.

When using the recommended yarns 1 50g skein makes a pair for the Youth/Women’s small. All other sizes require 2 50g skeins. If using alternate yarns all but Men’s large should comfortably fit in 200 yards, the Men’s Large possibly requiring just a little more.

Inspired by my annoyance at knitting fingers in the round and an Australian World War II pattern republished in 2013 in the Just Skirts and Dresses blog at http://justskirtsanddresses.blogspot.nl/2013/08/knitting-...

See my development project at https://www.ravelry.com/projects/NotMeEither/fingerless-g... for construction photos and additional notes.

Added a revised version in two columns that:

  • Uses two columns to reduce page count when printed
  • adds shaping to the palm to improve fit
  • adds options for longer fingers
  • reflects the changes that come with knitting another dozen pairs of gloves
