Finn Fish Sweater
This is the intermediate level PDF crochet pattern for the Finn sweater. The pattern is written in English and in US terminology. The Finn fish sweater is a fun, whimsical, oversized and very wearable sweater. The pattern is built around graphs as well as written instructions for the sizes XS-5XL. It includes detailed instructions and pictures for the different techniques used and explains how to read the graphs for the colourwork.
The sweater is made from one front panel and one back panel that are crocheted from the top down (so the length is adjustable). The sleeve panels are crocheted separately. The collar and the ribbing are then crocheted onto the connected panels. The pattern uses mostly half double crochet as well as single crochet and slip stitches. Since the non-working yarn is always being carried, there are not as many ends to weave in as you might first think. The pattern also comes with a lookbook of my testers’ creative versions of the sweater.
The pattern is graded for sizes XS-5XL. The sizes thereby correspond to chest sizes 71-156 cm or 28-62 inches. The sweater has between 17-26 cm (6.7-10.2”) of positive ease around the widest part of the chest depending on what size you choose. The gauge for the pattern in half double crochet stitches is 16 stitches x 12 rows (10x10 cm or 4x4 inches). If you don’t know how to make a gauge swatch, this is explained in the pattern. The fish are a bit different in size depending on the sweater size. On sizes XS, S, XL, 2XL, and 4XL, the fish are smaller than on my size M sweater, and on sizes L and 5XL, the fish are bigger.
The materials needed are:
4 mm crochet hook (or hook size to meet the gauge)
