As seen at Sock Summit 2009--
The Finn-ish sock design is inspired by a knitting technique from Rovaniemi, Finland. This approach to colorwork in the round is unique because it has elements similar to stranded colorwork, intarsia, and weaving. In Finland, the backs of mittens are most commonly seen adorned with the zig-zag
three color motif. I was introduced to this fascinating technique by Susanna Hansson in the Lapland Hand Garments class that she taught at Stitches West. Many thanks to Susanna for making this technique accessible to knitters outside Finland and for motivating and encouraging me to design these socks.

The Finn-ish pattern has detailed instructions on how to prepare 11 small butterflies of contrasting color and how to work the motif. Most importantly, there are instructions on how to manage the butterflies so you have a tangle free knitting experience.
