Christmas 2016 is just around the corner. Time to knit little presents and get in the mood. But what to make? Of course something fun and quick like the Fir Cowl and matching Fir Cowl Wristlets, a wonderful project for yarn leftovers or single balls in your stash – or a good opportunity to shop for just a tiny bit more, as you won’t need a lot to knit the Fir Cowl.

Find two contrasting yarns 1.4oz/40g = 156 yards / 144 m each to knit the Fir Cowl and only 1oz/30g = 120 yards / 110m each to knit the Fir Cowl Wristlets. You can choose various combinations: two color gradients, one color gradient combined with one solid yarn, two contrasting multicolored yarns etc. For the Fir Cowl I used one ball of Mini Mochi “Leaves & Sprouts” by Crystal Palace and half a skein of Tosh Merino Light “Tart” by Madelinetosh. For the Fir Cowl Wristlets I used two balls of Mini Mochi – “Grateful Grapes” and “Ice Strawberry”. Other great combinations are Crystal Palace Mini Mochi or Sausalito paired with Mini Solid; Noro Hansono paired with Silk Garden Fine or Flower Bed; Schoppel Wool Finest with Zauberball 100 or Zauberball Crazy; Wollmeise Pure semi solid with multi colored, or use two different color gradients of yarns like Nordlys by Viking of Norway, Lang Mille Colori, Poems Sock etc.

The beautiful cowl plus matching wristwarmers are seamless modular knits originally designed for fingering yarn. You can easily adjust this pattern to any other yarn weight by knitting fewer or more modules. Both the cowl and the wristwarmers are reversible. The right and wrong side are almost but not completely identical, the right side will feature one yarn a little bit more, while the wrong side will promote the contrasting yarn better.

Knit these fun accessories for yourself or make some nice presents for friends. You will find all instructions written and charted along with graphics and ample photo tutorials. It is now for free until the end of the year. So grab it while you can as it will be on sale for $5.99 in 2017.

And as if this wasn’t good enough already, like last year I offer a free Ursa Major KNITS pattern of your choice to the first three who finish and post the pictures of either a Fir Cowl or a pair of Fir Cowl Wristlets.

On your needles, cast-on, knit !!!

Have a wonderful Christmas season
