According to legend, the Firebird is a large bird similar to a peacock, with glowing eyes and majestic plumage which glows with red, orange, and yellow light. A single feather from the Firebird can bring light to a large room.

The samples in the photo were knitted with Colinette Jitterbug (color146 Popsicle), though any fingering yarn will do, so long as guage is achieved. The red and orange pool nicely against the bright green in this colorway.

Cowl is knitted in an open lace pattern and drapes about the neck. It can also be fastened to the side with a shawl pin or brooch.

The Gloves are not quite gauntlets, but are longer at the wrist, in the ribbed cuff. I don’t like short gloves which can ride up your hand !

I used about 1 1/4 skeins of Jitterbug for both pieces. The paper label on the skein says 291m/318yds per skein so to be safe, make sure you have about 500 yards. You won’t need this much, but you don’t want to run short !
