“Firmament” means the vault or arch of the sky, the dome of the earth. There are numerous thoughts on this term so you can take it for what it’s worth and what it means to you. To me, there is a lot more to just the meaning of it being the dome of the earth..but that’s another story for another day.

I wrote these socks up for two sizes: adult size small and adult size medium on 3.0 mm/US 2.5 circular needles. I used the magic loop method on long circulars but you can adapt them easily to DPNs.

My gauge may differ from the standard gauge so you may have to adjust your needles to get the size you need.

I used two 50 gram balls of Regia 4-ply sock in Lollipop with about 30 grams total left over. Note that different brands of sock yarn may have different thicknesses so keep this in mind when making a gauge swatch. Personally, I just jump right into it and hope for the best (insert smiley face here)!

I also used size 3.0 mm/US 2.5 long circular needles (for magic loop) or you can use DPNs.

You will also need a tapestry needle for the kitchener toe graft and for weaving in ends.

Stitch markers are always good to have on hand; I would suggest at least two.

Enjoy your journey knitting the Firmament Socks and always feel free to send me a message with any questions. I will do my best to get back to you quickly!
